A big THANK YOU to the fabulous staff and students of Grades 3 to 6 at Japanese International School in Tai Po for a fun day today! It was great to introduce you to my mischievous Ming Kee Monkey, not to mention some of the fascinating, rare animals of the Yunnan jungle like Binturongs, Gaurs, Civet Cats, Gibbons and Lorises named Doris! And then the Grade 5s and 6s and I met again for fun and games in my Introduction to Poetry Workshops! I was especially impressed with the talent they showed in completing our poem Let’s Destroy the School! I look forward to lots of entries in my Clever Competition – see the button above!

Help! It’s a Monkey Invasion! There are monkeys EVERYWHERE here in Hong Kong – and there were even monkeys rampaging in Singapore! Here is just a small selection of the monkeys I’ve encountered in the last 10 days – see if you can spot my Monkey Monkey (cousin of Ming Kee Monkey) in the collage above!

Today is the first day of Chinese New Year!! Kung Hei Fat Choy from Ming Kee Monkey and me for a fabulous Year of the Monkey ahead! We wish you all health, wealth and great happiness, not to mention wisdom, which (when you read The Tale of Ming Kee Monkey you will find that Ming Kee achieved in the end, although not until she’d been through a lot of trouble after causing WAY too much mischief in the jungles of Yunnan first!). Have a great holiday, and see you all next week!

Meet a remarkable writer

thumb_2016-02-04 12.42.54_1024Meet the remarkable Madeline Painter, from Grade 3 SAIS. It was my great honour to meet her myself today, for her work is some of the most talented writing I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading! Take a look at the Results of my Hair-Raising Halloween Poetry Competition (see the tabs for Clever Competitions 2015/2016 at the right) to see for yourself! I had the chance to chat to Madeline to find out what she does in her spare time and guess what? She reads LOTS of books. She does play the occasional digital game, but only maybe once every couple of days for just an hour. Now that’s what I call smart! Keep up the fabulous work Madeline!

Goodbye SAIS – and Thank You!

A very fond farewell to my friends at Stamford American International School. I’ve had so much fun seeing you all again, and working with the fabulous Grade Fives! I especially enjoyed my time with the nine individual classes, with my How to Write a Riveting Story and Books are a Brain’s Best Friend workshops! You are such great readers, I just know that you’ll all be great writers …and I can’t wait to receive your entries in my current Clever Competition (see page above)! Please make sure to use those Story Planning Sheets before you write those first drafts, and see how easy it is to write a truly riveting story! It was also very rewarding to work with the parents, and teachers from throughout primary school, in my workshops about How to Create Bookworms in the Digital Age, and How to Create Literate, Literary Writers in the Digital Age – thank you for your very warm reception! The biggest thank you of all is to the marvellous Kim Klein, a truly dedicated, extremely hard-working librarian, for hosting me so warmly and well! I hope to see you all again soon!

Today I visited my fabulous friends at Stamford American International School in Singapore again, for the first of three great days chock full of writing workshops and reading sessions for the Grade 5s, and talks to parents and teachers about creating bookworms and writers in the digital age too! It was wonderful to see you all, and especially to introduce you to my mischievous Ming Kee Monkey! I can’t wait to work with more of you tomorrow!

Watch out Singapore! Ming Kee Monkey is in town! Yesterday she visited the fabulous kids of Canadian International School, Tanjong Katong campus, and caused HAVOC in the primary library with the Grade 3s to Grade 6s! Many thanks to my lovely friend and librarian Nadine Bailey and her staff for putting up with Ming Kee’s antics and being such gracious hosts!
