A big THANK YOU to the fabulous staff and students of Grades 3 to 6 at Japanese International School in Tai Po for a fun day today! It was great to introduce you to my mischievous Ming Kee Monkey, not to mention some of the fascinating, rare animals of the Yunnan jungle like Binturongs, Gaurs, Civet Cats, Gibbons and Lorises named Doris! And then the Grade 5s and 6s and I met again for fun and games in my Introduction to Poetry Workshops! I was especially impressed with the talent they showed in completing our poem Let’s Destroy the School! I look forward to lots of entries in my Clever Competition – see the button above!

WIS workshop #5

Yesterday I had the huge pleasure of meeting 16 enthusiastic writers and artists from Year 7 at West Island School, as part of the WIS Arts Festival, with my special workshop about Publishing Picture Books from Brilliant Idea to Final Product! It was wonderful to meet so many talented young people, and to show them some real life examples of manuscripts, artist’s sketches and scamps, layouts and dummy books. I wish them the very best of luck for their future publishing careers!

A big THANK YOU to the staff and students of ISA Guangzhou, a fabulous new international school in Guangzhou, who hosted me on Monday! We had a fabulous day of story readings, with the younger kids meeting Chester Choi, Pin Yin Panda and Rodney Ram, then the older kids took part in my Introduction to Poetry Workshop! Special thanks to principal Elaine Wheeler (in green), teacher Gaby (in black) and admin assistant Linda who helped make my visit so memorable!

A huge thank you to teacher librarian Megan Light and library technician Liz de Wit for hosting me at Cranbrook Junior today. The boys from Grade 3 to 6 met my shy but artistic Rodney Ram in two fun story-telling sessions jam-packed with Chinese history and folklore, and even explored their romantic sides! It was so much fun, and I had a ball! Thank you all for your lovely warm welcome, and make sure you enter my Clever Competition right away! Also, do remember to take a look at http://www.roomtoread.org for more information about this very important children’s charity. Here I am with the boys, working out their signs of the zodiac, and pretending to be the farmer in Rodney Ram’s story!
