Now I know that I do bang on about not using toilet humour in your stories for my Clever Competitions…but I can’t resist sending you this fabulous Chinese New Year greeting from Harry Harrison, beloved illustrator of the Chinese Calendar Tales and the Dirty Stories! It made me giggle out loud – and I especially love the look on the dragon’s face! Thanks Harry for keeping us all laughing this Chinese New Year!

Phew! From last Saturday to this Monday, I had a ball meeting my fans and their mums and dads at a trio of fantastic Christmas Fairs! And I hope they’re having a ball reading their latest Chinese Calendar Tales, Dirty Stories, and my beautiful new Storm Whale!
We were even able to sell my fabulous new book for 2018, The Tale of Desmond Dog!
- On Saturday, my oldest daughter Bea and my lovely husband Philippe helped me to sell my books at the always-busy Singapore International School fair – we had enormous fun meeting all the SIS parents and kids, and rubbed shoulders with other friendly stall-holders we met there last year! Here I am above with one of my Summer Writing Course 2016 students Ian Chow and his lovely mum Priscilla Ko.
- On Sunday, I had another busy table at Prestige Fairs at the Conrad Hotel in Admiralty, Hong Kong – I was signing books all day and it was great to meet so many fans from so many different places! My books will now be winging their way to nieces, nephews, godchildren, family friends and even a few grandparents and in-laws in countries right around the world! Huge thanks to my lovely daughter Annabel for all her help!
- And finally, on Monday evening, I had one last table at the Australian International School Jingle and Mingle Fair where I caught up with fellow AISHK mums and dads while signing my books!
And that’s the end of my Christmas Fairs for 2017!!
Meet me and buy my books at the Conrad Fair tomorrow and next weekend!

A short but wonderful visit to Beijing!

Many thanks to the lovely Kelly Miller (head of library) for hosting me to two fabulous days at Beijing World Youth Academy on Tuesday and Wednesday this week! I gave story readings for all the students, from Kindy to Year 5, and two parent sessions where BWYA’s very dedicated and caring parents heard my top tips for creating Bookworms and Readers in the digital Age! I had a lot of fun, and signed a LOT of books for the many kids and teachers who bought my Chinese Calendar Tales and Dirty Stories!
It’s good to be back in Hong Kong!

Well, I’m back in Hong Kong after 3 fabulous weeks in Hobart, Melbourne and Brisbane, and it’s sooooo good to be home! The very first thing to be done was to pack up the fabulous book orders from the students of Australian International School and Kingston International School where I visited the kids just before I left! Here I am signing books yesterday in my office – we packed over 300 books in total! Thanks kids – and your books will be delivered to your schools this week!
A fantastic day with Stamford American School Hong Kong!

Yesterday I had a truly memorable Global Mentors day with staff, students and management at Hong Kong’s new and very exciting international school, Stamford American School!
We started with a terrific session with the little ones, aged 3 to 6, when they met my loveable dragon with bad habits, in a story reading session of The Tale of Chester Choi at the fabulous rooms of Safari Kids in Chi Fu Pok Fu Lam – a warm thank you to our host Lisa Olinski! Then, after a fun hour meeting parents for a busy book-signing of my Chinese Calendar Tales and Dirty Stories, we decamped for a delicious lunch, followed by an interview with John Cremer of the Education Post at SCMP, then a workshop session open to kids around Hong Kong in Grades 4 and 5 at SAS’s glamorous office in Central, when they learned all my top tips about How to Write a Riveting Story. Their fabulous mums and dads were all there, and it was great to tell them – and their kids – a bit about the latest science on the huge benefits of reading real books vs. the perils of the overuse of digital games, screens and devices!
Huge thanks to Admissions Director Carol Wong (above 2nd from left), Marketing Manager Wai Yan Yip (on the right) who was my lovely host for the day, and her assistant Mandy Man, for their warm hospitality!
Here are some photos, including one of my young fans, Sabrina, a keen young listener and budding writer!
Video to come!
