My Shanghai adventure started with a full-on, fun day at Nord Anglia International School, Pudong, where I was expertly hosted by the lovely Kym McCullough, librarian and fellow-Aussie! Here we are in the beautiful lobby of this outstanding school! The Year 2s met my feisty Pin Yin Panda and revised the order of all the animals in the Chinese Zodiac; the Year 3s heard my fabulous new Chinese Calendar Tale, The Tale of Rickshaw Rooster, and learned some fascinating modern Chinese history, while the Year 4s and Year 5s both did my fun Poetry Workshop! We all had a ball!

Rooster Cover image only(L)

Yippee! Rickshaw Rooster and I are flying to Shanghai today for 3 fabulous school visits and a special appearance on The Bund!! Which of course is where that feisty rooster runs THAT race!! I can’t wait to see my old friends in Shanghai – and to make some new ones too! – and to see my lovely fans at the Shanghai International Literary Festival at 10am at M on the Bund on Sunday!

The Tale of Rickshaw Rooster is my homage to a city that I love, that has made me very welcome over the past 9 years, and my homage also to its remarkable history that made it The Paris of the East!

And if you haven’t already booked for my session at the SILF, here’s the link! http://www.m-restaurantgroup.com/event/sarah-brennan-rickshaw-the-rooster-childrens-session/

Do make sure you see some of the other exciting sessions too – it’s a fantastic opportunity to meet authors from around the world, for both adults and children, and to hear them talk in person about their work. Not to mention having your books signed by the authors themselves!!

See you soon, Shanghai, with a great big COCKADOODLE-DOOOOO!

A big Cockadoodle Doo from Rickshaw Rooster, and huge thanks from me and Harry Harrison, to all our lovely fans who attended the Hong Kong launch of our latest Chinese Calendar Tale, The Tale of Rickshaw Rooster, on Saturday! There were over 30 kids, plus their lovely mums and dads, and we all had a lot of fun crowing our heads off, as well as supporting the national teams in that Race along the Bund in the story! Many thanks to Arti and Shonee Mirchandani, Clemence and all the team at Bookazine for another funny and fabulous Book Launch, as well as for these terrific photos!

They’re in shop windows, arcades and doorways all over Hong Kong – they’re even on high heels! What a great celebration for the Year of the Rooster! And my Rickshaw Rooster, being very vain of course, thinks he’s the cock-a-doodliest of them all!

My dear friends will all know that, sadly, my Dad passed away on the 18th of January, and we had to postpone Rickshaw Rooster’s funny and fabulous Hong Kong launch at Bookazine, Princes Building, in Central. But you can’t keep a good rooster down…and I’m delighted to tell you that the Book Launch is on again, on Saturday, 11th February from 2-3pm! I’ll be posting the new invitation on my blog tomorrow, but in the meantime, make sure you put it in your diaries!

What a fantastic time I had with the fabulous kids of Goodwood Primary School today! The Year 1 to Year 3s met my feisty, vain Pin Yin Panda, then the Year 4 to Year 6s learned all about the origins of the Silk Road, the Emperor Han Wudi, and my beautiful, proud Dark Horse! It was great to meet you all, and to introduce you to my books about the Chinese Zodiac animals! I look forward to getting entries from lots of Goodwood kids in my Clever Competition! A big thank you to my beautiful cousin and literacy teacher Susie Eades, who invited me in to the school today! Here we are above with a backdrop of my beloved Mount Wellington, and you can see my soft toy Monkey Monkey hiding inside the yellow box, about to start sky-diving!
