A LOVELY day at Lantau International School!

May 2, 2014 at 5:02 pm | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

Today I had an absolutely LOVELY day at colourful, crazy, creative Lantau International School. First I read my Tale of a Dark Horse to the fabulous Grade Fours, Fives and Sixes at the Pui O Campus, where I was hosted by principal Tom Vujnovak and had the huge pleasure of seeing my dear friend and exLIS teacher Pam Venter. Then I introduced Chester Choi the Dragon to the Grade Twos and Temujin the Tiger to the Grade Threes at the Tong Fuk campus in the afternoon, where Colleen Stewart was my wonderful host! We had so much fun! Here are some pictures – and you’re sure to recognize a few book characters, especially the amazing Captain Underpants!

silroad_lowres

Hello again to all you fabulous writers out there! I hope you all had a wonderful Spring Break, because now it’s time to spring into action and enter my latest Clever Competition!

Now if you’ve already read my latest Chinese Calendar Tale, The Tale of a Dark Horse, you’ll know that I’m fascinated by the Silk Road, the ancient trading route that stretched all the way from the old capital of China at Chang ‘An to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea at Antioch in Turkey! It wasn’t always there – and you’ll have to read The Tale of a Dark Horse to find out why and when it started!

So this time I want you to write me a story all about the Silk Road, with three most unusual special features included! Go to my Clever Competitions page above right away to find out all the details! The deadline is in just seven weeks, on Friday 13th June, so if you want to be a winner, you’d better pack your saddle bag, jump on your camel and start your writing journey right away!

I look forward to reading some practically perfect poems from the Harrow kids in my next Poem Competition!

Here I am with my lovely Aussie author friend Jan Latta when we were both in Shanghai recently, photographed on the balcony of the beautiful M on the Bund Restaurant which hosts Shanghai’s annual International Literary Festival. Jan is the author and photographer of the magnificent True to Life Animal series for children, all about endangered species, and I LOVE her books! Here is a fabulous article which just appeared in an Australian magazine called Digital Photography – click on the link to see some fantastic photos of wild animals – including cheetahs and elephants and a baby orangutan – and to read all about her adventures!
