Rodney writing an ode

A very Happy Year of the Ram (or Sheep or Goat) to you! It’s time for my next competition – and this time, of course, it’s all about sheep! I want you to write me a fun poem all about a single sheep, or a flock of sheep, or a ram, or a goat – in fact any woolly animal that runs around in a paddock and says “baaaa”! It can be any sort of poem – rhyming verse, or an acrostic, or a haiku, or a limerick, or even a knock knock joke! You can even write some weally woolly free verse! I’ll be looking for excellent vocabulary, great ideas, good spelling, and above all, something to make me smile! So this time it’s a fun one and I wish you lots of fun writing it! Deadline for entries is Friday 10th April, so you’d better start dreaming up your poem right away! See my Clever Competitions page above for all the details!

It was all fun and frolics at Shatin Junior School today when I told my new shaggy Tale of my shy sheep Rodney Ram to all 900 kids from Grade One to Grade Six! Here I am with my lovely host, head of English Karen Middleton, some feisty kids, and a gorgeous fan drawing and letter by Grade 5 student Reva Karayan and her little sister Veda! I love meeting my fans, and I really love getting fan letters too! Remember to keep visiting my blog to find out details of my next clever writing competition!

A marvellous mob at The Kellett School in Kowloon Bay!

Kellett #1

I had SUCH fun today, introducing my charming, creative but very shy sheep Rodney Ram to the kids of Year 2 to Year 4! There were lots of giggles as the boys invented romantic comments for Rodney to say to the ewes – and the girls decided what the ewes would say back! There was a very serious discussion about shyness…and a noisy commotion as the kids gave Rodney’s mighty tumble a great soundtrack! Thanks for all the fun, especially to Mrs Lisa Share and Mrs Beth McNeilly, two of my favourite librarians!

Commercial Press #12

What a great time I had on Saturday meeting some scrumptious kiddies and their mums and dads at Kiddyland at Causeway Bay! The kids met all my “babies” ie my growing family of stuffed toys, then settled down to a funny story time session, when I read them Rodney Ram’s shaggy tale with lots of fun thrown in. Thank you as ever to my friend Christa Tam of Blooming Club at Commercial Press for organising the event!

A Woolly and Wonderful day at The Harbour School!

SARAH BRENNAN THS

A big helloooo to my new friends (and some old ones) at The Harbour School in Kennedy Town! I had a fabulous time today introducing my Chinese Calendar Tales to the kids! Rodney Ram had a good old frolic with the Grade 1 to Grade 3 kids, then Chester Choi raised a few screams and giggles with the Kindy and Pre-Kindy classes. And to top it all off, the Grade 4s to Grade 8s met my mysterious Dark Horse and learned some fabulous history about Han Wudi and the Silk Road. Huge thanks to lovely librarian Goldie Wong who hosted me today (and created the fabulous poster above), and to Deputy Principal Christine Greenberg and Principal Jadis Blurton for inviting me.

A fun story reading for TEACHERS at ESF Educational Services!

cover image without text

Yesterday evening I read my new story The Tale of Rodney Ram to more than 20 lovely teachers at ESF Educational Services in Quarry Bay at the end of my workshop about How to Create Bookworms in the Digital Age! They all sat on the floor, and were very good at answering all my questions, and even gave fabulous names beginning with “Sh” to all the sheep, though I did have to remind a few teachers to remember to put their hands up and not to call out :)! Big thanks to Emma Dorrell, Education Manager, who invited me to speak, and to the participants for being such good sports!
