On Sunday, I entertained a big roomful of fabulous Shanghai children and their mums and dads when I introduced them to my new Chinese Calendar Tale, The Tale of Rickshaw Rooster! It was so wonderful to be talking all about Shanghai’s extraordinary history, the international Concessions, Shanghai’s most famous road The Bund, and the Roaring 1920s, when my story was set, in a building that was there in the 1920s, just beside The Bund! I could just feel Rickshaw Rooster fluffing his tail feathers, puffing his chest, and getting ready to do an enormous Cockadoodle-Doo!!! Here I am, above, with a fabulous bookstand made by my terrific distributors at Obido, in M’s famous Glamour Bar. Life as an author doesn’t get more glamorous than that! More photos to come!

They’re in shop windows, arcades and doorways all over Hong Kong – they’re even on high heels! What a great celebration for the Year of the Rooster! And my Rickshaw Rooster, being very vain of course, thinks he’s the cock-a-doodliest of them all!

It’s official! New launch date for The Tale of Rickshaw Rooster!

Postponement of book launch

January 18, 2017 at 9:00 am | Posted in Uncategorized | Leave a comment

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAMy darling Dad, John Dermod Brennan, passed away peacefully this morning, and my family and I are flying down to Brisbane to be with my mum and brother and sisters for the funeral. So we’re postponing the launch of Rickshaw Rooster for the moment. Here is my Dad smiling at me at one of the places he loved – Paradise Point in Queensland where he and my mum used to buy fish and chips and watch the pelicans. He was 90 in September and he lived a very full and interesting life. One day I hope to tell you more about him. Please spare a thought and a prayer for him on his next great journey.

A big THANK YOU to all my fabulous friends at Discovery College for inviting me for two wonderful days this week as part of their fantastic annual Cultural Festival! We had six funny and educational story readings from my Chinese Calendar Tales series, with the Grade Ones meeting Chester Choi, the Grade Twos laughing along with Pin Yin Panda, the Grade Threes having a frolic with Rodney Ram, the Grade Fours falling in love with my noble Dark Horse, and the Grade Fives and Sixes saying a fond farewell to Ming Kee Monkey in my last Ming Kee Monkey story readings for the Year of the Monkey! Huge thanks to my dear friend and talented teacher librarian host Leanne Sercombe for looking after me so well! See you all next year!

Patience, my friends…

What a wonderful lot of Horribly Hilarious Halloween stories I’ve received from you all! I’m judging the competition now…but I’ve got a VERY busy week ahead of me, with three school visits and two Christmas Fairs in just six days, so please have patience while I get the judging finished, and I’ll post the results as soon as I possibly can!
